Where
is the best place to buy the cheapest gas?
The gas prices at one of the three Hess Stations on
Walt Disney World property are consistently great
(cheapest that we saw in March 2006). The stations
just off Disney property can be outrageous. I have
seen the difference as higher than 35 cents a gallon.
Usually, with the exception of Disney property itself,
the further you travel from Disney the cheaper the
gas prices.

Will
I get stopped for speeding?
Yes, in general, the Orlando area is fairly well patrolled.
Make sure you stick to the posted speed limits especially
at night. The most likely spot to get stopped is on
Hwy 192 around the main entrance to Disney after dark
and on the Osceola Parkway near Animal Kingdom where
the speed limit goes down to 40 mph.

Are
U-Turns allowed in Florida?
U-Turns are very common in Florida. Be careful when
you are making a left turn that you watch in case
the person ahead of you is making a U-turn. If they
are, they will turn a bit and then really slow down
just when you are expecting them to speed up and turn
left. Be careful not to drive into them.

Four
Way Stops?
This is mostly for our guests at our Formosa Springs
villa and Captain Nemo's villa. On the way to the
home when you get to the four way stop make sure that
you come to a complete stop. There is a great place
just off to the left where police hide and ticket
people.

What
do I do with my valuables?
Always lock your vehicle. Leave your valuables locked
in the trunk of your car out of sight. If you have
a van, then leave valuables out of sight toward the
back of the van.

Divided
Roads?
We have met several vehicles that were driving into
the oncoming traffic. Many roads have a median in
the middle between the traffic lanes and when drivers
make a mistake and turn into the wrong lane they find
themselves stuck facing oncoming traffic. Make sure
you are aware of this and stay on the correct side
of the median. If you meet a vehicle going the wrong
way, just stop, put on your hazard lights, and give
them a chance to get turned around. If you keep driving
they may get nervous and drive into you or the vehicles
behind you may hit them.
Can
I make a right hand turn on a red light?
You may make a right hand turn on a red light; however,
if there is a RED arrow, this means you must NOT turn
right during the red light.

Why
does Interstate 4, an even numbered highway, run mostly
north-south through Orlando?
I-4, an even numbered interstate runs east-west. Through
Orlando I-4 runs north east to south west, but keep
in mind you travel EAST to Orlando and WEST to Tampa
from the vacation homes.

Should
I drive in Florida during a rain storm?
Sometimes in Florida the rain can pour down quite
hard. Usually with your wipers on high you can see
to drive safely, however sometimes it is just best
to wait a few minutes before getting on the road.
The heavy downpours usually do not last long anyway.
If you are driving and need to stop due to poor visibility
just make sure you are off the road far enough that
you do not get hit from behind. Either use your four
way flashers or pull off into a gas station or store
parking lot.

Are
there child car seats at the home?
No, we do not provide child car seats. Each vehicle
is different and has its own way to safely connect
child car seats. It would not be safe for us to leave
any child car seats at the vacation home.
Please
ask the car rental agency for child car seats when
you book your rental vehicle. It is best to make arrangements
for child car seats in advance so you do not have
a problem when you pick up your vehicle and your family
is waiting to start their vacation.
Do
I need to wear my safety belt (seat belt) at all times
while driving?
Yes, it is Florida law that you must wear your seat
belt. You will be fined if you or anyone in your car
is caught not wearing your seat belt.

How
do safety belts (seat belts) help?
- Safety
belts keep you in your seat and inside your vehicle.
- Safety
belts protect you particularly well in a front end,
rear end or roll-over crash.
- Safety
belts keep you behind the wheel and in control of
the vehicle.
- Safety
belts prevent more serious injury or death.
- Safety
belts and child-safety seats keep children from
being thrown around inside the car and injured.
- Safety
belts keep children from interfering with the drive
of the vehicle.

What is the proper way to wear
a safety belt?
Lap
belts should be worn snuggly and low on the hips.
Shoulder
belts should be snug across your chest and over your
shoulder. Never let the shoulder belt go slack. Never
place the shoulder belt under your arm.

What
about air bags?
Small children should NOT sit in the front seat in
vehicles equipped with passenger side air bags. Most
of the new vehicles come standard with driver and
passenger side airbags, so please assume that your
rental car does have a passenger side airbag and do
NOT put small children in the front seat.
