Answer
Can
I leave the doors open in Florida?
No, leaving the doors open is not a good idea. Florida
is a sub-tropical state and roaches live in the grass
just like other insects. They will come into the house
if the doors are left open. Also, the humidity damages
the home's interior and the home's contents.

What
if I see ants in the vacation home?
Ants are very common in the sandy soil of Florida.
Any food crumbs or piles of dirty laundry will attract
ants. If you see ants in the home please notify the
property manager.

What
is done about frogs and little lizards?
Nothing, they are protected by law and will not bother
you anyway. If you leave the vacation home door open
or your car door open they may get in, but they will
not harm you.

Mould
in Florida?
Mould can develop in Florida very quickly as compared
to cooler climates. Do not leave wet towels or dirty
laundry in heaps on the floor. The wet laundry will
mold and attract ants. Hang the pool towels over the
lawn furniture to dry. Do not leave your wet laundry
in the washer for a few days or it will also smell
musty and will need to be washed again.

Are
there mosquitoes in Florida?
Yes, during the summer months. By mid October the
mosquitoes are pretty much gone. They come out in
May and are most prevalent in July, August, and September,
but they only bother you around dusk. All of our vacation
home pools are screened in, so just keep the screen
doors closed and enjoy your evening outdoors by the
pool and spa.

Why
is the grass brown sometimes during the winter months?
If there has been a significant frost the grass will
go into a dormant phase which lasts about three weeks.
The grass will green up nicely after that. A brown
lawn at our vacation homes is not a result of poor
maintenance.

Why
do some trees or shrubs look dead?
Even though this is Florida some vegetation does loose
its leaves for a period of time. A tree or shrub with
no leaves does not mean that it is dead. Sometimes
in Florida a significant frost causes the leaves to
fall off some flowering plants and shrubs. These plants
then produce new leaves in the next few weeks and
months. If your vacation happens to be during this
phase of re-growth the flowers and shrubs may appear
to be dead, however, they are not.
