Safety
Take
only essential credit cards.
Take
only the ID you will need. Leave anything extra in
a safe place at home.
Stick
to well-lighted areas and streets where there is lots
of activity. Don't take short cuts through areas you
don't know.
If
you are driving to Florida be sure to have your vehicle
serviced prior to leaving.
Remember,
when you go from a cold climate to a warm climate
you will need to adjust your tire pressure. We bought
our own tire pressure gage and we keep it in the glove
compartment. It is much easier to use that gauge when
you are putting air in your tires. Make sure to check
your tires both on the way to Florida and on the way
home from Florida.
Back
at home, make sure some one picks up your mail and
newspapers while you are on vacation.
Do
not travel with jewelry you may misplace while on
vacation.
Do
not leave your luggage unattended at any time. Take
turns using the washroom at the airport so that a
responsible adult can look after the luggage.
If
someone "accidentally" bumps into you, check
for your wallet or purse immediately.
Do
not let your children travel in clothing with their
names visibly printed on it. A concealed name tag
is fine and helpful if your child gets lost, but you
certainly do not need every person who you pass knowing
your child's name.
Do
not advertise what country you are from. Being a foreigner
tends not to be a problem when traveling in North
America, but keep this in mind when traveling in general.
Make
sure you lock all of the vacation home doors anytime
you go out and make sure you lock all doors and windows
when you check out.
