Tips
Take
only essential credit cards.
It
is also a good idea to phone your credit card company
and let them know you are traveling to Florida. They
should make note of this and not shut your card down
because they think it is stolen. This one phone call
can save you a lot of embarrassment and grief while
on vacation.
Before
leaving home go through your purse and remove anything
that is unnecessary. Just in case you loose your purse
you will not have lost everything. This also helps
to lighten the load you carry around while on vacation.
Photo
copy your important identification cards and credit
cards and leave the copies at home in a safe place.
In the event that you do lose your purse or wallet
you will at least have the copies and know your numbers.
Also, take a copy of your travel documents and all
ID with you.
Separate
your traveler's cheques from the cheque duplicates
and store them in a separate place. Make sure the
cheque duplicates go with you though, as you would
need them if you lost your actual travelers cheques.
Prior
to your vacation find out if you can withdraw money
in Florida with your own bank card. This will allow
you to not carry as much cash and not purchase traveler's
cheques. Most grocery stores in Florida have bank
machines.
Be
sure to check the dates your passports expire. Make
sure they do not expire while you are on vacation.
You may not be allowed to travel at all if that is
the case. It is recommended that passports be valid
for at least six months from the last day of your
vacation. Check to make sure that any new additions
to your family also have the correct travel documents
or you may not be able to travel.
Take
a purse that has a long enough shoulder strap to go
over your head and put one arm through. This will
ensure you will not leave your purse at the airport
or on the shuttle bus while you are busy looking after
your children.
Watch
your laptop. Most laptop cases look very similar and
it is very obvious what is inside. Also you may not
be used to traveling with it, so be careful not to
set it down and forget all about it. We travel with
a backpack designed for laptops (that looks like a
regular backpack). This works very well.
If
you are visiting the theme parks with a large family
or group of people that you need to keep track of,
consider getting everyone a matching, colorful T-shirt.
It is best to choose a bright color that is a bit
uncommon, such as a shade of orange, yellow, light
green, tie-die etc. This helps keep track of your
family in a crowd.
